Putting on a Tallit Gadol for the first time? (These steps and pictures may help)
Step 1 The first step is to find the "Top". Each Tallit must have a top and a bottom. The top is easily found because the Atarah (the band of cloth that the prayer is usually printed on) is always on the top side of the tallit.
Find the 4 corners - the places where the fringes (tzitzit) and "corner squares" are found.
Fold the left side (where corners 1 & 3 are) over your left shoulder so that Corner 1 is in front of you, the fringe laying against you at approximately your rib level; and Corner 3 is opposite 1, hanging down the left side of your back, with the fringe approximately centered along your left leg. Repeat for the right side with Corners 2 & 4.
A - This is what the back of different Tallitot might look like when first put over the shoulders:
As always, if you have any problems or questions, please feel free to ask, even if you bought your Tallit elsewhere.
